A SURPRISE Princess Serenity Cosplay Session!

It was 25-degrees, but that didn’t stop Abby and me from surprising Jennifer with a SURPRISE photo session, despite her attempts to accidentally foil our plans! 😉

Abby (who lives in Florida) reached out to me mid-January about setting up a surprise photo session for her girlfriend over the weekend she’d be in town visiting. She was also making her a HANDMADE and GORGEOUS Princess Serenity gown to wear in said session.

We brainstormed and decided to tell Jen I was hosting a Moonie Meetup (for Sailor Moon fans) at Loose Park (there are some beautiful columns there, which would fit the Princess Serenity aesthetic).

Jen was worried about the cold. I was attempting to make it so she didn’t cancel on attending my fake “Moonie Meetup,” so I offered to move the madeup get together to my house since it was “all people I knew anyway.” She agreed. PHEW. Any time Jennifer would say something, Abby would message me in a panic.

The day finally arrived when Jen and Abby showed up at my house. I met them out in the parking lot, a camera casually strapped around my neck. AND THEN ABBY WHIPPED OUT THE SURPRISE! The moment we’d been waiting for!

THEN, we told her there wasn’t actually a Moonie Meetup … this entire thing was for a surprise photo session, all for her! Abby knocked this Valentine’s surprise out of the park!

Now, to the session itself. It was cold. 20-degrees cold. BUT WE ARE CHAMPIONS! Plus, as I told Abby in our chats … cosplayers and photographers are a touch on the crazy side. 20 degrees is child’s play. 😉

I am so happy the surprise and the session were a moontastic success! I have worked with Jen several times, and actually met Abby through photography as well (at this session below, actually)!

Here’s to many more! One of the greatest things about cosplay — the photos will always be different because the characters are! All of these cosplay sessions are the same person (Jen)! I have so much respect for cosplayers, and their infinite creativity bringing characters to life!

Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

And a very Happy Valentine’s Day to Jennifer and Abigail!

Our Top 7 Photo Sessions of 2019

We are at that time of year where we sit back and reflect on how far we’ve come. The year 2019 is no different, except that we probably have even more reflecting to do than usual.

Sunflowers (18)

This year marks the end of a decade! Whoa. That’s a really big deal. While we will have an entire post on our 2020 plans, this post is about reflecting back on our top 7 photo sessions of 2019. While all of them are very near and dear to my heart, these stuck out for their own special reasons! Read on to find out why!

7. Sunflower Mini Sessions!

This was the first year Kansas City Photography decided to do sunflower mini sessions! The event took place at Brookdale Farms in Eureka, and I rented out the field on a Sunday morning. It was an absolute hit — spots sold out in 24 hours.

Sunflowers (6)

It had rained the previous two days, and the field had been closed the day before due to the mud, but everyone made the trek in the mud for these beauties!

Sunflowers (21).jpg

It is technically supposed to be a sunflower “maze,” but with the puddles and mud, I picked out a few favorite spots and we stuck to those instead of walking through all of the soggy earth.

Sunflowers (33).jpg

We’ve had popular mini sessions before, but never to this magnitude. Definitely one for the books, and absolutely something we will do again!

Sunflowers (9).jpg

6. Lisa & Jason’s Wedding

Gray (7)

Lisa & Jason’s wedding stuck out for a few reasons, that photo above included. 🙂

I wasn’t actually their first photographer. Lisa had another photographer lined up for her wedding … who dropped out just months before they said “I Do.” Her now mother-in-law, who is my neighbor, reached out to me to see if I had their date available. I did, and we were able to meet up for coffee. Lisa told me I wasn’t allowed to back out, to which I told her “I have never missed a wedding in my life, you are safe!”

GrayWeddingParty (5)

Fast forward to a week before her wedding. Guess who gets bacterial pneumonia? This kid, that’s who. But, I absolutely kept my word. There was no way I was going to miss Lisa & Jason’s wedding, fever, pneumonia, or not!

GrayWeddingParty (79)

The next reason their wedding was rememberable (aside from their cuteness!) was the location. It was a location I had never been to before, in St. Louis, on the riverfront. It was someone’s home they had remodeled so that it could also work as a wedding venue. This place had the most unique artwork, including a statue that was so tall, even if several groomsmen stood on each other’s shoulders, they still wouldn’t reach the top!

GrayWeddingParty (24)

This piece was also inside …

5. Lindsey’s “Breaking Free” Session

As a photographer, sometimes we are approached and given a responsibility to tell a story. Lindsey’s story was not only important, but worth sharing to the world. At only 23, she has experienced a lot of loss in her life, especially in 2019 with the loss of both and uncle to cancer and a best friend … to murder.

Lindsey (2)

Lindsey came to me and said she wanted a “breaking free” theme for her 23rd birthday. She wanted to make 23 her best year yet, cherishing those she lost, but also becoming stronger because of the trials she has faced already at such a young age.

Lindsey (13)

Lindsey is studying to earn her EMT license, so she can help save lives — even after having lost so many in her own life. I look forward to seeing her flourish in 2020.

Lindsey (19)

4. Naka Kon 2019

Kansas City Photography has been a vendor at Naka Kon since 2012, setting up a photobooth in their vendor’s room every year. This year was different because it was the first year we had a double booth space, and it was all by a fluke, too!

NakaSaturday (157)

When Alyssa and I arrived at Naka Kon, we noticed the vendor to our left wasn’t there … and they still weren’t there even as time ticked closer and closer to opening. One of the coordinator’s came by and told us the vendor was coming in from Colorado, and they had gotten hit by a big ice storm and were unable to make it in. She offered for us to purchase the space — so we went for it!

Ashe (1)

This, combined with our on-site sessions, made it our most successful Naka Kon to date! We’ve already signed up for 2020, with a double booth space again! This year, we will have our Magic Mirror photobooth, too!

NakaSaturday (45)

3. Triplets Sessions

You’d think having one session with triplets would be amazing, but I actually had two sessions with triplets this year! One of my favorite families, the Sharp family, had triplets —

Sharp (5)Sharp (9)

And I also met Andrew, Gabby, and Cameron this year — triplets in very different walks of life! These three are seniors!

AndrewGabbyCameron (1)AndrewGabbyCameron (9)

It’s going to break my heart when the Sharp toddler triplets are old enough to do a senior session with me! Slow down, time!

2. A New York City Photo Session!

My husband, Bryan, has a cousin that lives in New York City. Although, since I frequent NYC several times a year, and always make sure to grab a bite with said cousin … Christie and I have decided we are actually cousins. Move over, Bryan!

ChristieNYC

So, of course, when Christie mentioned a photo session, I couldn’t wait to fly out and explore the city with her, camera in hand! We definitely got yelled at over an intercom for the shot below.

ChristieNYC (16)

Worth it, though, right?! Thank you so much for this treat of a photo session, Christie!

ChristieNYC (2)

Plus, it’s true, she’s totally an icon. With an amazing voice. You’re gonna rock the $h!+ outta 2020!! I can’t wait to see it, and then be like … “Hey! That’s my cousin!”

1. Gina & Rob’s Pouring Rain Engagement Session

Have you ever seen one of those romance movies where they run outside to meet, and kiss in the rain?! Like, every romance movie ever, right?

notebook

I had the opportunity, for the first time in my photography career, to do a pouring rain engagement session!!

Gina&Rob (2)

Usually, when there is rain in the forecast, I will have clients reach out to me and ask about re-scheduling. I usually give the option to have a fun rain session, but I understand when they go ahead with re-booking for a different day. Then, my dreams came true.

Gina&Rob (20)

Gina opted not to re-schedule. So, away to St. Charles we went — umbrella in hand. I stood in the rain and got drenched while taking these amazing rain photos, and it was completely worth it. Thank goodness Canon is water-resistant!

Gina&Rob (8)1

A few weeks after the session, I met with Gina for a coffee to finalize the wedding photography plans, and she told me she thought it was the most romantic thing that Rob waited until the final, in the middle of the street shot, to take off his outer shirt. He was excited for that shot, and that made her heart swoon!

Gina&Rob (6)

Plus, we were in the heart of St. Charles, so we had plenty of amazing natural backdrops to work with while the rain was pouring down.

Gina&Rob (4)

By the end of this session, I was drenched. Gina and Rob were drenched. It was cold … but it was 1,000 percent worth every second in that monsoon!

Gina&Rob (1)

We definitely had lost the umbrella by the end … but a little rain never hurt anybody. Plus, these two are happily ever after married now — ready to weather any storm together!

Princesses, Sailor Scouts, And Fountains! On Location At Anime St. Louis!

We had the pleasure of attending Anime St. Louis this year at the St. Charles Convention Center. And if there’s one thing everyone loves at this particular convention center — it’s those fountains, baby!

IMG_0154

Everyone brought their A-game for cosplays, and we brought our cameras, of course!

ASL 1

We started booking on-location shoots for ASTL soon after our adventures at Naka-Kon in March, so let’s get to showcasing these lovely cosplayers!

Christine had the first group, The Celestial Soldiers! Of course, we both LOVE Sailor Moon, so this was a treat!

First was Sailor Mercury, or Ally’s Geekery and Cosplay!

IMG_0200.jpg

Heather, or Lucky Eight Cosplay, was the group’s leader, Sailor Moon herself! Christine actually had to ask two strangers to help her out and hold up Usagi’s hair! Thank you, kind strangers!

Moon Prism Power, Make Up!

IMG_0332.jpg

Heather also had her two children with her, who cosplayed as well! Look at these two cuties! Gotta start the fandom young!

IMG_0165IMG_0274

And, Christine’s personal favorite sailor is up next — the senshi of love herself: Sailor Venus!

IMG_0255

We are so excited we were able to photograph this amazing Sailor Moon group! They also asked us to be their personal ASTL photographers from here on out! WE LOVE YOU!

IMG_0352.jpg

Next up are the Twisted Sister Senshis:

Chari 1

Chari Cosplayed an original character! She designed it based on if Usagi and Mamoru from “Sailor Moon” had another daughter. How cool and creative!

Chari 2

Faendina cosplayed as the princess version of Sailor Neptune! They both cosplay together frequently and are die hard moonies like us!

Alyssa, Chibi Rebel Cosplay, cosplayed a genderbend Hanzo Shimada from “Overwatch.”

Alyssa 1

I told her to put on her best war face and that the camera can sense when you’re not actually screaming. Can you hear her battlecry?!

She made her entire cosplay and bow, and she even had the characters tattoos made into temp tattoos that her best friend helped put into place. Amazing! This was Alyssa’s first cosplay shoot — thank you so much for booking us! <3

This next cosplayer made Tatiana super excited because it was from her favorite video game series:

Meaghan 1

Meaghan made a beautiful Aerith cosplay from “Final Fantasy VII.” She doesn’t have a cosplay page yet but, she is super talented! We highly recommend you get one, girl!

Val 1

Vallynn Cosplay went Sunday as “Revolutionary Girl Utena!” She’s had this cosplay finished for about a year, and was finally able to bring it into the spotlight! Everyone at the con was really excited to see this character and we’re sure glad she decided to cosplay her.

We are so happy we were able to meet some amazing St. Louis cosplayers!

Can You Name This Famous Disney Couple?

I learned a new term on Friday when doing this photoshoot — it’s called “Disneybounding.”

That means you are dressed in an outfit inspired by a Disney character. That does not mean you are necessarily dressed as the character (which would be cosplay).

How neat, right?! So — guess who!

DisBound (6)

A “castle,” a yellow dress, a rose, a “beast” of a boyfriend — who is also dressed in a matching blue / gold combo …

DisBound (19)

Tatiana & Eric were Disneybounding Belle & the Beast from “Beauty and the Beast.”

DisBound (3)

The happy couple (if you recognize Tatiana, it’s because she is also a part of Kansas City Photography — and the face behind Momo Bunny Cosplay) has been together for 4 years!

Belle is Tatiana’s favorite Disney princess. She told me she used to watch the original 5-10 times a day as a child (I totally did the same thing with “The Little Mermaid,” no shame!).

DisBound (11)

Tatiana said when the new live-action movie came out, it was one of the best date nights she and Eric had ever been on! The magic of Disney, folks!

“It was so magical to share that new experience of seeing it come to life with MY Beast,” Tatiana said.

DisBound (13)

“So, with all that, it made sense to have our first ‘not-so cosplay’ photoshoot together to be ‘Beauty and the Beast’ themed.”

DisBound (20)

“We are both Disney nerds, which is one of the reasons I love him.”

Awwwww!

DisBound (18)

Originally, we were hoping to go to Samuel Cupples house on the St. Louis University campus, but it was closed!

We didn’t have a lot of time because we started the shoot at 7:45, and sunset was around 8:20. Even setting the shoot so late, it was still in the 90s! It has definitely been a hot week!

DisBound (26)

But it all worked out, even if we were a little sweaty by the end of it. That, and we also grabbed Chipotle for dinner after the shoot — #winning.

I Found Princess Mononoke In The Woods!

A wolf princess — stalking me in the woods!

I ventured out to the Myron and Sonya Glassberg Family Conservation Area in Eureka — the perfect place for a shoot for our very own wolf princess, San.

Mononoke Hime (4).jpg

I’m an adventurous photographer, especially when it comes to cosplay characters. San (or Princess Mononoke) is cosplayed here by Momo Bunny Cosplay. Tatiana, the woman behind Momo Bunny, is also a part of Kansas City Photography.

Mononoke Hime (8).jpg

In the film, San is raised by a wolf God, and lives in the forest. She and the Gods of the forest are at war with a nearby mining village.

Since San is very much a woodland creature herself — it was important we ventured into the woods. I asked Tatiana to climb a tree that was over a stream.

Mononoke Hime (2)

And then I asked her to climb a cliff.

Mononoke Hime (10).jpg

And then I asked her to lean against a different tree (annnnd close her eyes):

Mononoke Hime (11).jpg

There was a lot of climbing. And a lot of trees. And quite a few mosquitoes. But thankfully for Tatiana, they all ate me instead.

Mononoke Hime (9).jpg

I am also really proud of Tatiana, because I am sure she was anxious climbing a tree that hung over moving water. But she did it like a total champion, and the pieces of art we got because of it are stunning!

Mononoke Hime (1)

I should also mention that Tatiana made this cosplay herself!

I think we really captured the spirit of Mononoke in this shoot. RAWR!

It’s A Dog’s World — Meet Tatiana’s Furry Family!

Tatiana _ Eric- Lady _ the Tramp 035

Hi, everyone! Tatiana here to talk about my beautiful (and stinky) family!

First, let’s start with Eric:

We met in college and there is no one else in the world I would rather share my adventures with. He loves Minecraft, Warcraft, arts and crafts … Kraft Mac N Cheese — you get the idea!

I am constantly on the go. My mom FORCES ME to take naps at her place because really, who has time for sleep? I’m always busy with my cosplay, both an art and a business, promoting my brand Momo Bunny Cosplay. I make the world smell good with Scentsy, and make the world look good with photos. I am constantly running around KC for photoshoots (on one end of the camera or another), and editing until my stomach tells me it’s time to stop and eat. Eric supports me through it all! He is the most understanding, optimistic person I know and he is the calm in my chaotic world.

I introduced him to cosplay and now we travel across the country every year, exploring different cities and going to different conventions. We are the perfect team and four years later we own a house together (Christine’s old house, actually)!

tatiana and eric once upon a time 034

We have very few professional pictures together (we gotta change that!) but I think our “Lady and The Tramp” shoot has some of my favorite pictures of us together!

Tatiana _ Eric- Lady _ the Tramp 105

We love Disney, and we love dogs. Speaking of which, lets move on to my fur babies!

Meet Lily:

Lily1

Lily is a Coonhound I rescued from KC Pet Project about three years ago. I was looking for a doggie to be my companion during hard times and I fell in love with her picture right away! She is my baby girl, my best friend, and she has a deep bark to scare off sinister solicitors. 😉

Her hobbies include sunbathing, chasing critters, and digging.

Lily2

Here she is trying to hide one of her holes in the yard with her face. Quite the personality she has!

Next up is Luna:

(Christine and I definitely did NOT plan to name our children the same names. Funny how that works out though, right?).
Luna1

Eric saved her after she was chained up in a yard, left behind by her previous owners at an abandoned house (savages!). I suggested we name her Luna after my love for Sailor Moon over the phone when Eric explained she was black. He left out the detail of her being a Chihuahua… now Luna is short for “Lunatic.” She has her sweet moments, but her breed only really bonds with one person, and like Frenchie from Grease explains, “The only man a girl can depend on is her daddy.”

She loves barking, biting, pooping, yapping, more barking, and sacrificing the blood of the innocent to her nethergods… I mean … napping.

Meet Zero:

It has always been my dream to have a basset hound! I was looking around and realized we really couldn’t afford what breeders were asking for and no shelter had any basset’s available. Then, a breeder contacted me asking if I would possibly want one of her pups that has to undergo a minor surgery. Because of his hernia, no one else wanted him no matter the price. As soon as I went to her house to meet him, he jumped around his brothers and sisters right into my lap! He chose me from the beginning.
Zero 1

He’s about a year old now and I still can’t get over his cuteness! I always say dogs are a lot like toddlers and Zero likes to prove that everyday. He pushes his limits and then gives me those puppy eyes to see how much he can get away with. Boy is spoiled!

Zero 2

BUT HOW CAN YOU SAY NO TO THAT FACE?! HOW??

Zero was named after the dog in “Nightmare Before Christmas,” another huge fandom of mine. He enjoys snuggling for hours, chewing on random objects abruptly without warning, and howling. He is currently pursuing a music career in yodeling. He’s really going places.

LunaZero1

I can never get the three in a photo together! This is the best there is! Luna barking Lily away and Zero wondering why his older sister be so cray-cray … and so tiny.

LilyZero3

My babes are crazy, noisy, and hairy (especially Eric), but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Brian & Kellie’s Autumn-Colored Country Wedding

I started this blog in 2017, so some of my favorite weddings of 2016 never got highlighted — until now! Today I wanted to take a look back at the last wedding I did in 2016 before winter fully set in.

Brian & Kellie Hudson

Brian & Kellie (165)

It was an unusually gorgeous day Saturday, November 12. Renyers Pumpkin Farm in Wetmore, Kansas, was usually already closed for the season, but it stayed open for Brian & Kellie’s big day. And it was in the 60s. The 60s! In mid-November!

Brian & Kellie (114)

When I did the couple’s engagement photos in February, Kellie told me she wanted to encompass the colors of fall in her wedding colors — oranges, purples, yellows. We even incorporated that into her Save the Date!

IMG_0441

And when I walked into the Coach House to see her wedding decor in person, I gasped. She nailed it! It looked like a lovely autumn day — but inside! The chairs were lined with colorful orange and red leaves. There was a fire going, and logs were set to place their delicious wedding cheesecake upon (yes, cheesecake!! It was so good!).

Since the weather hadn’t yet turned bitterly cold, the leaves were still clinging to the trees. We could really get some great shots that reflected everything we love about fall — there were some leaves that already said goodbye to the season on the ground, but there were still some clinging on hoping we’d just skip winter and prance right into spring.

Brian & Kellie (174)

The dresses and vests were a dark, autumn purple. Kellie’s bouquet had twine and fall flowers interlacing.

Brian & Kellie (168)

Brian & Kellie (222)Brian & Kellie (212)

It was truly a fall wedding — gorgeous colors of nature represented throughout! There was a shot from the couple’s engagement shoot that they absolutely fell in love with — and asked me to recreate it for their wedding day. Done!

Brian & Kellie (330)

Brian & Kellie were adorable. The cute little forehead kisses Brian kept sneaking. The way Kellie would reach for his hand instinctively — the same hand with a new promise displayed on his ring finger.

Brian & Kellie (163)Brian & Kellie (94)Brian & Kellie (102)Brian & Kellie (103)

The two didn’t want to see each other before walking down the aisle. Kellie was so nervous he would catch a peek, but Brian said it was so important to him to get this shot. They held hands around the corner, not seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day until Kellie walked down the aisle.

Brian & Kellie (61)

After the vows and the tears, it was time for some fun! Renyers has a life-size foosball! I have never seen one of these, but before I could even make the suggestion they go play, the groomsmen’s jackets were flying off, and the bridesmaids were sprinting into the game!

Brian & Kellie (177)Brian & Kellie (180)Brian & Kellie (182)Brian & Kellie (190)Brian & Kellie (194)Brian & Kellie (197)Brian & Kellie (199)Brian & Kellie (200)

We ended the evening with gorgeous country sunset shots. It was an unforgettable day of love, laughter, vows, cheesecake, and foosball.

Brian & Kellie (232)Brian & Kellie (227)Brian & Kellie (225)Brian & Kellie (223)Brian & Kellie (164)

The best touch — Kellie gave me a card at the end of the evening. A handwritten letter thanking me for being her wedding photographer. It was so humbling — especially when the honor was all mine!

Thank you, Kellie & Brian!

“How Much Do You Love Me?” Amanda and Dustin’s Engagement Shoot!

Hey, everyone! Tatiana here to talk to you about a celebration of LOVE. First off, congratulations to Amanda and Dustin for winning our free engagement shoot!

Amanda Dustin Engagement 1

They chose the Love Locks Bridge for the shoot location. They picked it from our awesome list of the Top 10 Photoshoot Locations in KC. This was such a fun area to explore and I’m grateful they were willing to go on little adventures to get the perfect shots.

It was such a treat meeting them and seeing their love for each other shine through on camera. When I asked how they met, here’s what Amanda had to say:

“We both met each other on Tinder (what people nowadays consider a hook up site lol). Definitely not our case!”

They were both in search of their special someone and became head over heels!

This is one of Dustin’s signature signs of affection for Amanda: the forehead kiss!

Amanda Dustin Engagement 5

Amanda Dustin Engagement 3

When the proposal happened, Amanda was so surprised, she thought the conversation was heading for the worst. AKA a breakup … not an engagement!

They were at the Plaza for their anniversary and it was bitter cold. Dustin casually asked Amanda “so, how much do you love me?”

She put her arms out wide and said “THIS MUCH!”

“Alright, and how much do you think I love you?” Dustin countered, with Amanda giving the same response as before.

Dustin disagreed and held his hand up, measuring a tiny amount, almost an inch. At this point, Amanda was really confused and thought he was trying to break up with her.

He then said (and I’m paraphrasing) “Sometimes you need to appreciate the small things, because they can turn into something much more.” That’s when he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring!

Amanda Dustin Engagement 2.jpg

And what a ring!!! Whoo-whee!

When I heard the touchingly romantic story, Dustin said jokingly: “Yeah, I had to bring her down a little bit to build up the moment.”

Amanda Dustin Engagement 4

There you have it, folks! TRUE LOVE! This tree stump is a new favorite hot spot — we got so many cute shots by it.

I wish them the best in their happy future together!

Amanda Dustin Engagement 6

May the playground teasing never die, and Amanda stay safe from the slide bandit.

Naka Kon 2017: Cosplay, Photography, and MomoBunny!

Note: We will have a blog up with a gallery of photos from the con later today!

###

Hey, everyone! This is Tatiana (aka Momo Bunny Cosplay), the newest photographer on the Kansas City Photography team. I was asked to shed some light on my experience at Naka-Kon and my cosplay construction.

IMG_2859

Here I am cosplaying Viktor Nikiforov from the award-winning anime “Yuri on Ice.”

I’ve been attending Naka Kon since 2009, back when it was based in downtown KCMO with 1,500 or less attendees. It’s touching to see the first anime convention I went to grow and evolve as my cosplays have over the years. Now, it is based in Overland Park, KS, and the attendees almost reached 9,500 people! YOW-ZAH!

Some of you may be wondering: “what the heck is cosplay?”

Let me break it down for you!

Here’s the technical definition (thanks, Google):

cos·play
ˈkäzˌplā,ˈkäsˌplā/
noun

a contraction of the words costume play, is a performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character.

IMG_3077

Here is a photo I took at the Kansas City Photography photobooth of Caitlyn Rook cosplaying the White Queen from Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland”.

Cosplay, to me, is an art form. I have unlimited outlets to create (sewing, welding, sculpting, thermoplastic, makeup, wig styling, etc.) — and endless possibilities of characters to choose from! Sometimes, it can be putting an outfit together to create a characters image:

IMG_3196

Above is a photo Christine took of my Prompto cosplay from Final Fantasy XV! Although I purchased all the pieces of this look, I styled the wig, detailed the vest with studs and patches matching the character, and used fabric paint to create the undershirts design.

IMG_3130

Another awesome Prompto cosplayer above!

Each year, there’s always a favorite anime or character that you see EVERYWHERE! Naka was flooded with Prompto’s since the voice actor for him was a guest at the convention (Robbie Daymond). Cons will often have special guests (voice actors, actors, artists, famous cosplayers, etc.) to draw more people in.

IMG_2931

Oh, look! Another Prompto!

It was amazing being able to meet so many talented and kind people at the booth. This was my first time getting a taste of the vending life at a con, but it was a lot easier to connect with people being in one location vs wandering the halls.

17265071_1445004458904271_2877912837549175529_n

Above: Check out Christine and I from Saturday as Punk versions of Sailor Venus and Chibiusa from the Sailor Moon series! We took concepts from the original character designs, such as Sailor V’s signature red bow and Chibiusa’s buns and pink obsession, and put our own spin on things for a unique costume design!

It’ll take weeks to months — even YEARS — to create a cosplay for an event such as Naka Kon, so I give everyone out there mad props (haha… props) who came to our booth to capture their works of art on camera!

IMG_3186

Above: Featuring Madison Hankins from Akarii Cosplay as Neo from RWBY. She creates all of her cosplays herself! AMAZING!

Naka-Kon is a welcoming, happy place where I feel safe to talk to strangers and connect through the love of all things nerdy! I recommend anyone who feels shy or uneasy about expressing their interests to go and make friends! It’s impossible to NOT to find someone to share your fandom with and create wonderful memories.

Above: My niece Nya as Vocaloid Miku! Naka is a family-friendly event and I love that so many children have a way to express themselves in a safe, positive way.

Joining Kansas City Photography has opened up a whole new world of possibilities and fun times ahead! The Con season has just begun, and I’m excited to see how my photography and cosplay can inter-loop again.
