Top 4 Wedding Trends of 2019

As wedding photographers, we see a lot of things at wedding. Cool things. Strange things. Awesome things. However, the topic of this post today is … trends. The things we saw or heard of during our 2018 weddings that we think are going to pop in 2019!

Josh & Sam (13)

4. Gold Wedding Gowns

We’ve been seeing pops of color in wedding gowns for several years now. Whether it’s the belt that goes around the waist, or the dress itself having a pop of color near the train …

IMG_9325

This year we think the entire gown color will change itself! Bring on those gold dresses, baby!

3. Dangling Bouquets

The bouquet and rings are some of my personal favorite photos to capture. We’ve seen big bouquets, small bouquets, faux flower bouquets … and dangling bouquets! We think this trend will continue, and those bouquets will continue to cascade over!

2. Autumn Colored Weddings Year-Round

We’ve seen quite the trend on dark, elegant colors. Maroons. Oranges. Magenta. We think this trend will continue, because who doesn’t love Fall? These darker colors bring a certain elegance to the day!

1. Sequins

We think sequins are going to be everywhere. Sequin photo booth backdrops (which was at a wedding I attended last weekend, even!), sequin bridesmaids dresses …

sequin

And maybe even some sequins on the wedding gown itself!

Josh & Sam (7)

Let’s see how we did in 2020! Make sure to keep up with us on Facebook!

Top 4 Wedding Venues of 2018!

It’s 2019 already! We are so happy for the memories we were able to share with our wedding clients!

This is Tatiana, and today I’ll be covering our top 4 wedding venues from 2018.

Being a newly engaged person myself, I was really overwhelmed with all the questions everyone was asking me right away. The biggest question everyone had was: where’s it going to be?

I’m fortunate enough to have a job that allows me to travel to different weddings venues and scope them out, so I got to see why each place made the bride and groom say “yes!”

These are in no particular order, these are just amazing venues we had the pleasure of working in 2018!

1.Haue Valley

Josh & Sam (6)

Haue Valley is located on the St. Louis side and it’s a photographers playground! This location has a variety of photo options throughout the property, like the awesome silo backdrop above.

Josh & Sam (7)

They also cater to every woman’s fairytale fantasy with this beautiful Pinterest worthy vine ring set up-

Sam Josh 7

And this amazing stone gateway into a world of wonder! It’s seriously perfect for that golden hour shot, which you can see in Sam and Josh’s wedding blog!

Haue Valley offers indoor and outdoor ceremony options and a scenic adventure that you’ll never forget.

Josh & Sam (3)

Complete with feeding cows!

2. Sunset Bluffs

This is another location on the east side. Sunset Bluffs is a great location if you’re looking for some great water based backdrops.

IMG_3458

They also have an amazing bridal suite with a sweet balcony, perfect for “First Look” shots. The best part about this location is their cliff side access!

IMG_4361

Which you can read about in Brett and Hannah’s blog!

IMG_4285

Sunset Bluffs also has indoor/outdoor ceremony options and a lounge area (with a fully functional kitchen!) for your guests to chill and watch TV while you’re getting ready for your magical moment.

3.The Rhapsody

The Rhapsody is a hidden gem right in the middle of the city on the Kansas City side!

Sam Zach Wedding 14

With actual gems glistening in the sunlight!

Sam Zach Wedding 2

This location has seperate buildings for the bride and groom to get ready, so if you are super traditional, you won’t have a chance to run into each other until you’re walking down the isle.

Sam Zach Wedding 12

The Alter itself is a row of pillars and flowing certains that create an angelic atmosphere.

Sam Zach Wedding 17

Adjacent to the alter is a sweet waterfall moment which is something Sam and Zach really loved about this location!

4. Acquaint Gathering

If there was a place where Pinterest came to life, it would be Acquaint Gatherings!

Belzer 3

They have every nook and cranny decked out in shabby chic decor and vintage flair!

Belzer 28

The Bridal suite is completely furnished with all kinds of photo opportunities (like you can see in Beth and Josh’s blog).

Belzer 23

This location also has a gorgeous gazebo outside with a window wall that captures the light and love of your special day!

Acquaint Gathering is located on the Kansas City Side!

And there you have it! We loved working with each and every one of these locations, and beautiful couples, and we hope to partner with them again!

Celebrating A National Holiday … Every Day! Plus: 2019 Resolution!

Celebrate whatever National Holiday it is … everyday! That was my 2018 New Year’s Resolution. So, how did it go? Well, it was a wild ride, that’s for sure … and one even involved being naked! :O

More on that in a second.

(April 11: National Pet Day)

30629707_10212593405772501_1307420227092348928_n_10212593405732500.jpg30629826_10212593405132485_8246848859184037888_n_10212593405092484.jpg

Hi! This is Christine. The owner of Kansas City Photography. Since we here at KC Photo get to know our clients, and truly make them part of our family … I wanted to share with you my fun 2018 New Year’s Resolution.

(Oct. 16: National Boss’s Day … thank you, Kaleidoscope Staff!)

44174446_10213863459163042_8963235217879859200_o_10213863459083040.jpg

(Feb. 4: National Mail Carrier Day)

I wanted to do something different than just “lose weight” or “be healthier” or “be happier.” I wanted a resolution no one had done before, and that would be both fun and challenging. I had noticed every day seemed to be some sort of “national” holiday. So, I decided that whatever holiday it was … I would celebrate it!

(Jan. 2: National Buffet Day)

26220233_10211783555886760_4979709873268092200_n_10211783555886760.jpg

I learned some of the National holidays are totally worthless. Like National “Open An Umbrella Indoors Day” on March 13.

29177852_10212352327505695_8302265306080870400_n_10212352327465694.jpg

Some days were more entertaining … like National “Answer Your Cat’s Questions” Day on January 22.

Then, there were some that were very similiar. Like National Glazed Donut Day (Jan. 12), versus National Donut Day (June 1). I partook in both, of course:

Or National Margarita Day (Feb. 22) vs. National Tequila Day (July 24).

37746618_10213290929570160_3198276894801788928_n_10213290929530159

Or even National Pizza Day (Feb. 9) vs. National Cheese Pizza Day (Sept. 5).

41135257_10213581868203444_2609064968712093696_n_10213581868163443.jpg

Also, every day has more than one designated holiday, so I had to pick and choose which ones I would do each day. National Lego Day (Jan. 28) coincided with the Lego exhibit at The Magic House, so that worked out well. I could have also picked National Kazoo Day or National Blueberry Pancake Day to celebrate on this day as well!

27336679_10211983401722781_7327449127783647546_n_10211983401722781.jpg

I think my personal favorite was National Scooter Day on May 19.

It got to the point where my friends would ask me daily what National Holiday it was.

Sometimes, if they knew they’d see me that day, they’d take it upon themselves to bring ME the item needed for the daily holiday. Like National Grilled Cheese Day (April 12):

30629686_10212596873899202_6650241891277209600_n_10212596873859201.jpg

Or National Banana Split Day (Aug. 25), where my girlfriend I was visiting in Canton, Missouri, went to the grocery store just for supplies!

40140009_10213509786001434_7929121420737511424_n_10213509785961433.jpg

The resolution also dictated what I ate for certain meals. And there were a LOT of holidays involved around food.

Pictured below are:

National Tempura Day (Jan. 7), National Pizza Day (Feb. 9), National Tartar Sauce Day (March 8), National Spinach Day (March 26), National Shrimp Scampi Day (April 29), National Chicken Wing Day (July 29), National Ice Cream Day (July 15), National Taco Day (Oct. 4), and National Pasta Day (Oct. 17), and National Pickle Day (Nov. 14).

AND what I drank …

Pictured below are: National Brew A Potion Day (Jan. 19), National Rum Day (Aug. 16), National Chocolate Milk Day (Sept. 27), and National Coffee Day (Sept. 29).

26804847_10211904277504725_264541917193307152_n_1021190427750472539270792_10213450220392331_2234463878274613248_n_1021345022035233042723572_10213733101104172_6359924431602581504_o_1021373310102417042790912_10213744093578977_8653832078888009728_o_10213744093498975

Some events were all day things! For National Wine Day (May 25), a group of my friends and I went to several different places.

AND this holiday dictated what I wore … or didn’t wear … and this one was the doozy. I knew it had been coming up for months.

I got dozens of tags on Facebook about it.

World Naked Gardening Day.

The first Saturday of every May. I knew I couldn’t disappoint. 2018’s World Naked Gardening Day ALSO fell on Cindo De Mayo, so I was creative:

31934801_10212754233473093_7847308087659593728_n_10212754233433092

There are SO many more photos I could share, but I think I’d lose you.

Here is one more photo, that I got to celebrate with KC Photo’s other half, Tatiana! International No Diet Day (May 6)!

31960367_10212760714075104_2622077246445191168_o_10212760714035103.jpg

This resolution was a lot of fun! I definitely gained weight this year, but at least I had fun doing it, right?

So, what is THIS year’s resolution? 2018’s is hard to top … so I am taking suggestions! Comment below what I should do this year! The sky’s the limit.

Here’s to a fantastic 2019!

The Bride & Groom Fed Cows! Samantha & Joshua’s Country Wedding

This Saturday, Christine & Tatiana traveled to Haue Valley for Samantha & Joshua‘s wedding — and this venue can boast something none of the others can:

Josh & Sam (3)

Yes, they were able to feed the cows!

We almost got the Bride Mobile stuck in the mud on the way there, but hey! We made it, and it was totally worth it for the shot! This next shot was also taken in the cow pasture:

Josh & Sam (13)

Christine first met Samantha at a bachelorette party for a mutual friend (who was also a bridesmaid in this wedding)! After a few glasses of wine, they decided they were best friends and that there was no one else better suited to photograph this wedding!

Thanks, Sam!!

Josh & Sam (5)

And let’s take a moment to drool over her gorgeous dress and bejeweled shoes:

Josh & Sam (7)Josh & Sam (1)

Sam & Josh have an adorable little girl named Genevieve, who was the cutest little flower girl in the wedding!

Josh & Sam (10)

Mr. Luke was also pretty down for this adorable cousin hug, too!

Josh & Sam (2)

It was a whopping 36-degrees … but everyone was a champion about being outside:

Josh & Sam (14)

Haue Valley is a 246 acre farm — which is readily availble for the bride, groom, photographer, and videographer (hat tip to Applause Weddings for being amazing to work with!) to explore in the Bride Mobile. We’ve already mentioned the cows, but there is a pond, a silo, and several photo hot spots on the property.

Josh & Sam (4)

Plus, there is a spot absolutely perfect for the first look. There is a gorgeous wooden sliding door where the groom can wait to see his bride.

As long as one of the groomsmen doesn’t pop out of it before the bride can …

Josh & Sam (8)

Don’t worry, Sam go her time to shine, and Josh was an elated groom to see this stunning woman he was about to marry:

Josh & Sam (9)SamJosh5

It had snowed the day before, but not much of it stuck to the ground. However, there were some gorgeous spots where the Fall colors and snow blended perfectly together for photographs.

SamJosh2

The bridesmaids also found that shots of vodka helped keep them warm for the photos! 🙂 I personally think that was a fabulous idea!

Josh & Sam (6)

It was a wonderfully perfect day for Samantha & Josh to tie the knot. Thank you for letting Kansas City Photography be a part of your day!

Maternity Shoot at Burr Oaks!

Sunday, we explored Burr Oaks Woods with the Carter clan!

Carter Maternity 8

Anthony and Katie already have a beautiful daughter, Charleigh, and now they are expecting daughter #2!

Carter Maternity 1

Even though she won’t be the center of attention anymore, Charleigh is super excited to be a big sister!

Carter Maternity 7

Katie and Anthony are going to have a busy holiday season for the rest of their lives. Charleigh’s birthday is December 16th and baby-to-be is set to come Dec. 6th!

Carter Maternity 3

December is definitely the time for celebration!

Carter Maternity 6

Kiddo #2 doesn’t have a name yet, but mom and dad are hoping to know as soon as they meet their baby girl. They had a name picked out for their eldest, but when they met her they knew she was a Charleigh!

Carter Maternity 4

Thank you so much for sharing this special moment with us, and we can’t wait to meet the newest addition to the Carter family. <3

Poop Jokes In The Woods! A Funny Fall Family Session

I met up with Stacy, Trevor, Logan, and Cloe Saturday at what is quickly becoming one of my favorite photo locations, Shaw Nature Reserve!

Stacy saw her friend Angie’s photos and just had to book a session with us! We are so glad she did!

Kramer (1)

Usually during a session, I will have the kiddos say things like “cheese!” or a character from their favorite show, like “Chase!”

Logan, however, was cracking himself up by shouting all things related to poop instead!

Kramer (4)

I heard things like “cheese ball poop!” and “poop crackers!” But, hey, it got him to smile, so there are no complaints here!

Kramer (2)

Cloe is our little forest nymph. She saw a tree that Trevor mentioned he bet she could climb … so she did!

Kramer (7)

Speaking of trees — at the very end of the photo session, Trevor spotted a hawk up in one! It was just sitting there watching us intently.

Kramer (10)Kramer (11)

As we walked back to our vehicles, we saw it dive bomb into the pond to attempt to catch some fish! It was a really cool experience!

Kramer (8)

Shaw Nature Reserve is 2,400 acres of amazingness. It has trails, bridges, ponds — you name it! I am going to have to update our top St. Louis locations list!

Kramer (6)

When I first met Stacy, she told me something that I never hear. She said Trevor was just as excited about family photos as she was!

Kramer (5)

This is unique, because usually it takes a bit of convincing to get Mr. Man on board, but then they always see why it was worth it afterward. This time, there was no battle! We were a “GO!” from our very first meeting!! Thanks, Trevor, for seeing the importance in family photos! You’re the man!

Kramer (3)

It was so wonderful to meet this family! Here’s to many more family sessions! I love watching as the kiddos grow up!

Hiking To A Castle: Ayanna’s Senior Photo Session!

Since I was raised at the Lake of the Ozarks, I am always excited when I have the opportunity to make the trip down. It was no exception when I met up with Ayanna and her wonderful family at Ha Ha Tonka State Park. And, yes, it has a castle!

A8A12

For anyone who hasn’t been there, the castle was built at the turn-of-the-century. A fire destroyed it, but the ruins remain for us to gape at. When I was growing up, there wasn’t a fence around it like there is now, and people were able to get much closer to the castle and explore.

A1

It was a delightfully overcast day (a photographer’s favorite!), and we even got a little rain. Jacob was kind enough to hold an umbrella over me while I Asked Ayanna to play in the rain! You can even see the streaks of it as it passed by:

A9

I had my oldest daughter, Lily, at the session with me. She is my little road trip buddy. She and Ayanna’s brother, Nicholas, really hit it off and entertained one another while I took photos.

A10

Ayanna’s sister and mother, Alyssa and Airyanne, were so amazing in helping me carry my backpack and lenses! This senior session truly was a family ordeal! Even the family pup joined on our adventure!

A4

Ayanna told me she planned to start out at a local college. She isn’t sure what she wants to major in, but we all know this woman is going to go places!

A11

My dear friend, Misty, introduced me to this wonderful family. She asked that we snap a family photo during the session, but we were missing Zack! Next time, my friends! 🙂

A5

Thank you for spending your Saturday with me — it was a treasure to get to know you all! I’m excited to see the great places Ayanna will go on her journey!

“Oh, She’s In The Chiggers!” Sudduth Family Photos!

I met with the Sudduth family this Saturday at a NEW location (at least for me!) We met in Gray Summit at Shaw Nature Reserve.

For this very first shot, I had to step pretty far back off the path into approximately 1,000,000 sticker bushes. There was a photography class going on behind us, and I guess people were staring over at me, because the instrucor went: “Oh! She’s in the chiggers!”

#anythingfortheshot

Sudduth (2).jpg

Early Saturday morning, Andrae, Grant, Walker, Angie, and Joey introduced me to this jewel, which very much reminds me of Burr Oak Woods in Kansas City!

Sudduth (12)

Angie told me this was her family’s first time getting photos outside of a studio (think, like, JC Penney photo studio). I was completely flattered, honored, privileged … you name it … to introduce her into this whole new world of on-location photography. So, whatcha think, Angie?

Sudduth (10)

Andrae, who was named after Angie’s maiden name, was our 12-year-old helper. Angie is actually in a BOOT right now due to a stress fracture. Andrae was a gem helping us carry, not letting me forget to leave my lenses lying around, and helping me explore this new setting!

Sudduth (15)

Grant, whose birthday is in just a month (to the day!), was also very excited to tell me all about Shaw Nature Reserve. He also told me I was a “nice lady.” Thanks, Grant!

Also, Angie told me this is one of his original faces:

Sudduth (13)

But we got this 6-year-old to cheese for us, too!

Sudduth (14)

Now, Mr. Walker, our 2.5-year-old, was surprisingly good at giving little grins. We didn’t get any huge belly laughs, but we got some smiles when we asked him to say “Chase!” instead of “Cheese!” He’s a big “Pat Patrol” fan.

Sudduth (4)Sudduth (11)

We also had to make time for photos of just Angie and Joey. These two lovebirds are still in love, three (and 13 years) kids later!

Sudduth (6)Sudduth (7)

Thanks for booking with Kansas City Photography, we can’t wait to keep capturing these memories for you — outside of a studio! 😉

Apple & Lemonade Stand Sessions! Pumpkins Are Next!

Last Sunday, the St. Louis branch of Kansas City Photography set up its lemonade / apple stand for some adorable mini sessions!

aislyn2.jpg

Christine has two signs. One says “Love & Lemonade,” and the other says “Appes & Ale.” She’s getting a third sign that says “Pumpkins & Potions” to use in October! The talented Crafted by Danyelle helps her make the different signs for her stand.

First up, Miss Elena! Her mom, Alyssa, fell in love with the stand when Christine got it this summer, and had to have the lemonade sign!

elena1elena2elena3

Then, we moved onto the Apples & Ale minis because ’tis the season! Our own little Harry Potter fan, Jaxton, was all about those apples, let me tell ya!

Jax1jax2jax4

Next up, some of my very favorite people — the Nelson clan! Lochlan and Aislyn were rocking the apple stand! And Aislyn was all about eating those apples, too! Maybe the reason the stand was such a hit is because kids love apples?!

aislyn3aislyn2

We also snuck in some family photos!

nelson.jpgnelson2.jpg

We will be using the stand for “Pumpkins & Potions” mini sessions next! Stay tuned to our Facebook page for the latest!

He Puked On Me! Baby Oliver’s Newborn Session

Oliver, unlike his big sister Genevieve, was all smiles for me during his newborn session!

Oliver (15)

I did manage to get one good grump face out of him, so here’s a side-by-side of Oliver at the same age as Genevieve!

And, with newborn sessions, there is usually some type of bodily fluid. I’ve been pooped on. And peed on. Oliver was no exception when he decided to upchuck on Aunt Christine.

Oliver (42)

Happy parents, Jenn and James, are avid sports fans. They love the Dallas Cowboys. This is something Jenn’s Dad passed onto them, because neither of them are actually from Texas.

Oliver (32)Oliver (36)

And, of course, there will always be some sort of homage to Mizzou in Jenn’s photos. We can actually thank the University for us even meeting. And we were roommates for several years and still love each other. That’s saying something!

Oliver (11).jpg

So, we’ve covered the NFL and college sporting teams, what do you think is missing, St. Louis?

Oliver (30)

It wouldn’t be a completely sporty newborn session without some Cardinals love. Having lived in Kansas City for years, I am personally partial to the Royals, but don’t tell anyone here that! :O

Oliver also has the cutest birth / beauty mark right on his eyebrow!

Oliver (21)

Tell me that isn’t adorable! We probably won’t be able to see it once his eyebrows grow in darker, so I wanted to make sure to get a picture of it!

Oliver (24)

Oliver is such a little stud. Thank you, Jenn & James, for letting me play with him for an hour! We had some drinks while you were away! 😉
